Extension of tax exemptions for medical products during health emergency

VAT exemption on the import and sale of certain medical and cosmetic products in Colombia has been extended by means of COVID-19.




Starting on 15 April 2020, and for the duration of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, VAT exemption on the import and sale of certain medical and cosmetic products in Colombia has been extended by means of Decree 551 of 15 April 2020 by the Government of Colombia.

In addition to extending the duration of the exemption, the decree provides a new list of VAT-exempt products that will benefit from this measure.

Some of the products included in the list are surgical masks, latex and nitrile gloves, probes, catheters, ultrasound scanners, defibrillators, stretchers, alcohols, soaps, antibacterial gels, sphygmomanometers, thermometers and many other products useful in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
